Baby colds are no fun. My little angel has her first cold. If any of you are in my boat, hopefully this helps you.
Humidifier
Humidifiers are great for the dry winter months and this is really a MUST for a baby with a cold. I recommend the Vicks FILTERFREE cool mist humidier as you don’t have to worry about to change filters every time. It is not too small that you need to fill it up with water in the middle of the night and not too big that it's heavy.
Essential Oils
Provides soothing scent. (I will post another blog for diffuser blend recipe)
Nosefrida
Before Jacquelyn was born, I was really into watching baby product essentials on youtube, this product is the momma youtubers definitely a MUST-HAVE. Well, I made sure I got it, just in case. Here’s how you use it, you suck through the tube and literally suck the snot out. Don’t worry there are filters so you are not ingesting any of the snot. Jacque hates, hates, hates it! However, it helps a LOT! It has been a lifesaver – an absolute cold survival essential. Make sure to buy an extra set of filters as it only comes with one set of 3.
Nasal Drops
This works well together with Nosefrida. It helps “loosen” up the mucus/snot. She does not like it, but what can you do? It still helps release all the mucus, which great for her to breathe better.
Boogie Wipes
These wipes are great for getting the dried boogers off the nose/face.
Wedge
When Jacquelyn has a cold, she is most uncomfortable when she is laying flat which makes perfect sense as all the drainage runs to the back of her throat. The wedge elevates her head and torso, promotes better breathing, thus, she gets to sleep better.
Thermometer
Unfortunately, the cold is often times accompanied by a fever. The Bump recommends to get this fancy baby forehead thermometer, it is truly the most comfortable and convenient way to measure baby’s temperature. However, affordability wise, safety 1st 3-in-1, is good too, it works just the same.
The Canadian Pediatric Society states that for a healthy baby, a normal temperature is anywhere between 36.5 – 37.5 degree celsius. Anything higher is considered a fever. For birth to 2 years, it is recommended to use rectal and axillary technique to check body temperature.
Tylenol
For fever and pain relief. Be sure to check concentration and follow dosing accordingly.
Starbucks
For mom and dad! Jacque is a good sleeper. She still sleeps pretty good when she has cold. We are so lucky! Anyway, babies who can’t sleep because of colds, I guess parents make sure you stock up on coffee!
