DO NOT BUY TOO MANY CLOTHES BEFORE YOUR BABY IS BORN, you will surely receive some baby clothes as presents on baby shower party. Also, you may also receive some hand-me-down clothes, so buy wisely. For myself, I just specifically bought my baby’s hospital clothes before she was born, as I thought they were very special, those were her first clothes to wear after she came to this world. I wanted to pick them myself and personally bought.

So, here are some tips for buying baby clothes..

1. Know how sizing works..

Here’s some guidelines from some of my favourite baby clothing stores..

*Age on the label is not an indication of how your child should be growing.

2. Refrain from buying bunch of newborn clothes. As i said earlier, people might give you gifts. Plus, you will not know the size your baby will start at.

3. Look for soft fabrics; garment that has easy access for changing the diaper, and wide stretchable neck to put on and off easily.

4. Always choose one size bigger of your baby’s actual age. Babies grow so quickly! For Jacquelyn, she is almost 6 months old, she outgrown so many clothes already and she is now wearing clothes for 9-12 months. Sometimes, it depends on the fit too, for babyGAP or OLD NAVY or ZARA BABY, she can still fit to 6-9 months, but just right. For Carter’s, I find they make small sizes, or maybe it’s just me. Take consideration too of the season, summer clothes are no use in the winter. However, you can put them as undershirt during very cold weather.

5. When SALES SHOPPING, get some bigger clothes for her to wear for the next few months or seasons. For example, get baby winter jackets or boots, especially when they’re discounted, for when she’s 1, get for 2 years old. You will save some pennies! If I think my baby needs clothes, and stores are giving 50-75% OFF, I make sure to take advantage of it. Baby clothes can get pricy.

6. BE WISE WHEN BUYING UP-MARKET BABYWEAR. I only buy her branded goods, when they’re just on sale or whenever she needs an outfit for special occasions.

7. DON’T OVERSTOCKED CLOTHES. JUST DON’T! When your baby is about 2 months old, I advise you to put those 3-6 months clothes too, though a little bigger to your baby, I am pretty sure, she will wear them only for a short period of time. She will outgrown them so fast. 3-6 months clothes, Jacque mostly outgrown them so quickly. Some of them, she has only worn once!

8. If you think baby jeans are really cute for your baby. Think twice! They are very uncomfortable for your baby and a pain to get on and off at change time. You can wait to buy these items for an older baby or toddler.

P.S. ORGANIZE your baby dresser/closet whenever you have time. Helps you to know when to buy new baby clothes! For clothes your baby does not wear anymore, sort them aside, put them in a storage box, so you do not waste any space.

Note: Wash all items before wearing. New clothing is often treated with chemicals to make the material crisper.

Enjoy organizing or shopping mommy!
